(Robins) – Today (26 March 2008), Joel D. Miller, current Linn County Auditor & Commissioner of Elections announced he is seeking re-election to a four year term. Miller was elected on February 13, 2007, after winning a six-way contest to fill the unexpired term of Linda Langenberg.
Miller indicated he has kept his commitments to the voters by conducting fair elections, maintaining the integrity of the Office, improving the use of technology in the Office, increasing the amount of information available to the public via the internet, and with the support of the Governor, Legislature, Secretary of State, and fellow Auditors – he is moving to a paper ballot for 100% of the voters in the upcoming November general election.
Miller said, “I have kept my promise to the voters to maintain the high standards of integrity expected of the Auditor’s Office. I have conducted fair elections and ensured every vote is counted. Further, I have considered what is best for Linn County in every action I take and every decision I make”.
Miller indicated his short term goals are to make the Auditor’s walkup counter more customer friendly and efficient, to change out the voting machines after the June primary election, and to train the precinct election officials on the new equipment and changes to election laws for the November general election. Long term, Miller plans to lobby the 2009 Board of Supervisors to broadcast their meetings via the internet. He further plans to lobby the Board to take action to address the future space needs of the County.
Prior to becoming Auditor, Miller worked as an IT Director and commercial building manager for Four Oaks of Iowa. He has worked in the private sector his entire career except for three years in the US Army. He has over 20 years of management experience and recently served as Mayor of Robins – a part-time position. He holds associate degrees in Police Science and Electronics Engineering Technology and a bachelor degree in Liberal Studies. He is a member of Metro North Rotary (Hiawatha & Cedar Rapids), American Legion Post 298 (Marion), and Saint Joseph Catholic Church (Marion). He chaired the Linn County Democratic Party for 5 years and served on the Robins City Council for 4 years. He is a military veteran (US Army – 3 years) and former military reservist (5 years); a former law enforcement officer (5 years), union member (IBEW 2021 – Oklahoma City), and dairy farmer. He and his wife (Sylvia) have been married for 30 years and they are the parents of three adult children – Jason, Michelle, and Andrew. ###
